The Internazionali BNL d'Italia 2011 will be officially presented at a press conference on Thursday 28 April 2011 at 11 am at a conference in the press centre of the Stadio Olimpico in Roma. This will be the 68th edition of the tournament, held on the famous clay courts of the Foro Italico. The event is one of the most prestigious on the circuit, never more so than this year since it is being run as a combined event featuring the cream of the crop of both men's and women's tennis playing side by side.
The women's tournament is a WTA Premier event and will feature all the top players, including world number one Caroline Wozniacki and both Venus and Serena Williams (despite the latter not having played since winning Wimbledon last July). There will also be four local favourites for the home crowd to cheer on, namely Roland Garros champion Francesca Schiavone, Flavia Pennetta, Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani, all ready to do battle with the 2010 champion Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez from Spain.
In the men's draw, which will be the fifth ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season, all the top players are present and correct, starting with world No.1 Rafa Nadal from Spain who will be looking to win his sixth Rome title. Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic is No.44 in the ATP rankings, making him the first player on the waiting list for direct acceptance.
