Nishikori fit and ready for first match

This content was published 7 years ago. It may refer to a past edition of the Internazionali d’Italia.

Kei Nishikori believes he has sufficiently recovered enough from the right wrist injury which forced him out of the Madrid Open to be able to play this week at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” said the world No. 9. “Yeah, very unfortunate to get hurt again last week, but it’s not too bad.”

The Japanese player felt pain in his wrist during prematch practice for his quarterfinal against Novak Djokovic on Friday and subsequently gave a walkover to the Serbian. The injury, which first troubled him during the Miami Open, also forced him to withdraw from the Barcelona Open but he is confident he will be able to take to the court for his first round match at the Foro Italico.

“Yeah, I have been practicing, you know, easy these couple days, and it’s getting better. It should be okay for the match.”

Nishikori will play Spain’s David Ferrer or Feliciano Lopez in the first round.
