21.07 – Now the center court is ready for the match between the world number 1 Simona Halep and the french Caroline Garcia (7 WTA). Is the first meeting on clay for them. With the loss of Wozniacki Halep is sure to remain on top of the WTA ranking despite what happens tonight.

20.50 – The battle is over! Novak Djokovic outlasts Kei Nishikori, 2-6 6-1 6-3 in 2:20, to reach his first semifinal of the season. He plays Nadal in the semis in their 51st meeting, Nole leading on 26-24 and having won 3 of the last four meetings in Rome.

20.20 – The smile of Maria Sharapova at the end of the match won today against Jelena Ostapenko didn’t go unnoticed:“I would hope after three hours and winning this match that I would smile. It’s always, nice to have a battle with a few ups and downs and finish strong to get through a match like this against a really high-quality opponent. And to end up winning it, you know, quite proud of the effort. I didn’t have a great first set. But then, you know, kept going, kept going and made her think a little bit in the second. A few ups and downs again in the third. So a lots to smile about in the end.” Then a question: After beating the

Roland Garros champion, which level do you think you are now? “Every day is different; every opponent is different. And it doesn’t matter, you know, how you felt today. If you give yourself an opportunity to go out on the court tomorrow, you have another challenge and another opponent ahead of yourself. You know, I think looking back to the last few weeks kind of where I started in Stuttgart to having a tough three-set match loss there in the first round to coming to Madrid to not like physically pushing through that last match that I lost and coming here and having some very physical tough first couple of matches and then going deep in the third today and following through, I think that’s the type of progression that I want to see for myself. I put myself in that position and then see where I can go. And I felt like today was just a step in the right direction of, you know, mentally getting through, of being there, of challenging her, no matter what the level was at certain parts of the match.”

19.50 – Djokovic wins the second set 6-1.

19.30 – Very high quality ball-striking by Nishikori and Djokovic. Kei won the first set 6-2 but now Novak is 4-0 up in the second.

Marin Cilic (Foto Giampiero Sposito)

17.30 – Sharapova won the second set 6-4 and is now leading 3-2 on 3rd. Marin Cilic is very happy about his first Master 1000 semifinal on clay:“Feeling is great. My first semifinal on clay in a Masters 1000 event. So that’s a good achievement. I was waiting many years for it happening, to make it. Definitely a happy moment for sure. The victory today, it was a great match. Serving incredibly well, both on first and both on second serve. That was extremely important. Gave me a lot of freedom in my game. When I’m serving that well, everything else is coming a little bit more naturally. I would say that returning, I give myself few chances and managed to break. I wouldn’t say it was perfect, also, from the return. But, you know, it’s difficult to have an extremely perfect match in the quarterfinals. Anyway, Pablo is very solid player, I knew that. And I prepared for the match to have a tough match. And it happened to be sort of a little bit easier, maybe, than what I expected. But that was also because of the level that I produced and the game that I played.”

Rafael Nadal (Foto Antonio Costantini)

16.30 – Maria Sharapova is one set 7-6(3) and one break down in the second against 2017 Roland Garros champion and world number 6 Jelena Ostapenko. Meanwhile Rafa Nadal arrived in press conference and talked about the match won against Fabio Fognini:“The first set I think it started well with both of us playing well. He was playing some good points, too. It was a good quality of tennis. Then I had my opportunity at the game of 4-1 returning, but he played some great shots in that game. And then coming back from love-30 — love-40 in the 4-2 to deuce was a slice backhand mistake for me that I should not have missed that one, after coming back from that tough cross-court. He played great tennis, hit a lot of winners, taking the ball very early. My feeling was that I missed the important opportunity in the 4-2. And then I think I felt a little bit the pressure and I played a couple of bad games. Couple of mistakes that I should not have it. I was a little bit more in his hands, because he was taking the ball earlier than me and he was able to control more points than me from the baseline. So, that’s why he had success in that end of the set. Later, things changed. I changed a little bit the way I played, a little more aggressive on my forehand, trying to hit a little bit more forehands. Have a break early in the second set definitely helps for the confidence. But then I think I played more aggressive with my forehand. And when I play more aggressive with my forehand, then the backhand become better. It’s true that I feel that is an important victory for me, coming back from a set against. First time since I came back that I was one set against and I won. So, there’s a lot of positive things out of the match today”.

15.39 – Marin Cilic reaches his first Master 1000 Semifinal on clay beating a clay specialist like Pablo Carreno Busta, world number 11.

14.56 – Rafael Nadal dropped the opening set before recovering to canter to a 4-6 6-1 6-2 victory over Fabio Fognini and move through to the final four at Internazionali BNL d’Italia for the 10th time and his first since 2014. With 11 winners, Cilic pockets the first set 6-3 against Pablo Carreno Busta in just 31 minutes. The Croatian winning 79% of his points behind his second delivery is the most telling stat.

14.30 – In Rome every day is a “treasured” memory…today even more! Lots of fans participated in our “Champion Hunt” guided by clues hidden around the site. Look at the last moments of the video and you will find out what happiness looks like!

13.54 – A very fast turnaround from Nadal who wins 6-1 the second set. On Next Gen court Marin Cilic and Pablo Carreno Busta are warming up.

13.20 – Fabio comes back from 1-4 down vs Nadal to win 1st set 6-4, really impressive

13.10 – Fognini was 4-1 down but with two breaks is now serving for set on 5-4.

13.00 – Svitolina wins the first set 6-4 against Kerber on Next Gen.

12.00 – Exciting day at Foro Italico. Now on court two of the 8 matches that are going to play today. Fabio Fognini faces the world number 2 and 7-time Rome champion, Rafael Nadal.
