Kvitova withdraws from Rome

This content was published 6 years ago. It may refer to a past edition of the Internazionali d’Italia.

Petra Kvitova announced on Sunday that she will be withdrawing from the Internazionali BNL d’Italia due to a right hamstring injury sustained during her run to the title at the Madrid Masters.

“I’m so disappointed to withdraw from Rome with a right hamstring injury, especially after missing it last year,” said the two-time Wimbledon champion. “Rome is one of my favorite cities to visit and to play in those beautiful stadiums is something special. After this incredible two weeks of tennis my body is in need of rest and recuperation. I can’t wait to be back in Italy next year!”

Kvitova is enjoying her most successful start to a season, having won four titles so far in 2018. As well as lifting the trophy in Madrid on Saturday, the world No. 10 also triumphed at her home tournament in Prague the previous week and at St Petersburg and Doha earlier in the year.

Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova becomes the No. 17 seed and moves to take Kvitova’s place in the draw while a lucky loser will replace Rybarikova in her original spot.
