Semis day at Foro Italico

This content was published 8 years ago. It may refer to a past edition of the Internazionali d’Italia.

Rafael Nadal may have exited in surprise fashion late on Friday evening but that does not stop the excitement in Rome. There are four semi-finals in the singles to enjoy – all of them on Centre Court.

The action begins at midday with Simona Halep looking to continue her impressive showing this week. The Romanian has lost just seven games this week and takes on Carla Suarez Navarro who has proved a tough opponent on the head-to-head. Halep leads 5-4 but the Spaniard leads 3-0 on clay.

Top seed Novak Djokovic follows in the first men’s semi-final as he takes on Spaniard David Ferrer. Djokovic has won his last 20 matches and eight in a row over Ferrer.

The second women’s semi-final follows with Maria Sharapova looking to add to her 2011 and 2012 triumphs. The Russian takes on qualifier Daria Gavrilova, who is appearing in a WTA semi-final for the first time. But Gavrilova won their only previous meeting in Miami.

Finally at 8pm, after his win over Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka will look to beat another big-name player as he takes on Swiss countryman Roger Federer. But Wawrinka has only won two of his 17 meetings with the 33-year-old so knows the size of his task. Federer would dearly love to add the Rome title to his collection, having never won here.
