IBI23: the ATP draw has been made promising exciting early rounds!

In the beautiful Piazza di Spagna of Rome, the draw for ATP Masters 1000 of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia was drawn with thrilling early rounds and some top seeds at risk of upset.

The ATP Masters 1000 of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia witnessed a stunning draw ceremony in the gorgeous setting of Piazza di Spagna in Rome. Lorenzo Musetti helped the officials drawing the seeds and was then part in the making of some extraordinary early rounds.

The projected quarter-finals will be the following:

(1) Djokovic – (7) Rune

(4) Ruud – (8) Sinner

 (6) Rublev – (3) Medvedev

(5) Tsitsipas – (2) Alcaraz

With a high-quality field, however, it would not surprise most if some of the seeds will not live up to the “expected” results. Defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic got a vintage challenge ahead as his second match – following the first-round bye and a debut against either Luca Van Assche or Tomas Martin Etcheverry- could be against Stan Wawrinka or Grigor Dimitrov.

In the same quarter, Fabio Fognini and Andy Murray have been drawn against each other in what promises to be one of the most exciting first round matches.

Last year’s semi-finalist Casper Ruud will play his first match against Arthur Rinderknech or a qualifier, but his road to the later stages looks far from comfortable with two up-and-coming Americans – Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul- awaiting before a possible quarter-final with Italy’s number 1 player Jannik Sinner.

The third quarter is packed with star-power: standing between the two highest seeds and friends Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev one finds the likes of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina -likely first seeded opponent for Rublev-, Taylor Fritz, Hubert Hurkacz, David Goffin and Alexander Zverev! The last two who are most likely facing off in the second round if the Belgian wins his opening match against local hope Luca Nardi.

Stefanos Tsitsipas might start his campaign to defend last year’s final with hot-form Dusan Lajovic, who just recently won the tournament of Banja Luka defeating Novak Djokovic en-route. The Greek is supposed by seeding to face the rising star of ATP tennis and Madrid champion Carlos Alcaraz. The second seed has never lost to Tsitsipas in 4 meetings, including Barcelona’s final just a few weeks ago.
