Carlos Alcaraz will not take part in the 79th edition of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Following his magnificent winning run at the Masters 1000 of Madrid, his fourth title in the season after Rio de Janeiro, Miami and Barcelona, the world number 6 decided to skip Rome to heal a suffering ankle.
“I am contemplating skipping Rome”, he had already said during the press conference following his victory over Alexander Zverev in the Madrid’s final: “I am still dealing with some problems on my right foot and ankle”.
The rumours became reality and today the forfeit of the Spaniard was officially filed. His place in the draw will be taken by Emil Ruusuvuori.
Many fans were also waiting for another champion to take on the courts of the Foro Italico, but will have to sadly postpone this moment as Naomi Osaka was forced to withdraw due to a left ankle injury.
Her place in the draw has been taken by Nuria Parrizas Diaz as a lucky loser who will face Sara Sorribes Tormo in a whole-Spanish match-up.
