2258: Isner does it. And it was a bit of a procession in the final set. 6-2 he’s taken it to set up a second round tie with Andreas Seppi, the Italian. Thanks for your company today, see you tomorrow.

2245: Isner’s on fire at the moment and poor Kohlschreiber’s game has dipped alarmingly. The German loses his serve in the first game of the final set and Isner’s serve is now in full flow. It’s 3-1 and Kohlschreiber needs to find something special now to turn the tide once again.

2232: We have a final set decider. From nowhere, Isner is back in it. He has been going for his shots for much of the match and now they are coming off. 7-3 he took the ‘breaker. Interesting to see the unforced errors are creeping in for Kohlschreiber – nine in that last set.

2226: Isner of course played the longest match in tennis history when he played Mahut at Wimbledon 2010 and he isn’t going to give this up. He breaks Kohlschreiber back when the German was serving for the match at 5-4. We’ll now have a tiebreak.

2205: Isner came out fighting at the start of the second half, and for a moment it looked like his power game was working with one 200kph serve. But Kohlschreiber got the break in the fifth game of the second set and leads 3-2.

2146: Another break for Kohlschreiber and he closes out the first set 6-2. Isner really does not look comfortable out there on the clay. 10 unforced errors to Kohlschreiber’s none tells its own story. Just 24 minutes that opening set.

2140: First blood to Kohlschreiber who breaks in the fifth game of the match. The German has now held serve and has a 4-2 lead.

2114: Almagro has just won the final set 6-0 against Cilic. I don’t think we expected that, although I’m not sure what we were expecting anyway after the first couple of sets. We have a final match of the night on Centrale. Ninth seed John Isner in action against the German Philipp Kohlschreiber. Will it be a late night classic?

2048: Almagro is pegged back by Cilic who takes the second set 6-3. But the Spaniard has broken in the first game of the final set.

2015: In the blink of an eye, Nicolas Almagro has taken the first set 6-2 against Marin Cilic and has now snatched an early break in the second set. In a hurry.

1935: A fine win for Stepanek who has come through against Chela 6-3 in the final set. He simply took the match by the scruff of the neck having appeared to be in trouble. Nicolas Almagro is next up against Marin Cilic but the Croat has the 2-0 head-to-head advantage.

1850: This is a real turnaround. Having lost the first set Stepanek has bagled Chela and we now have a decider.

1820: Berlocq has won 6-1, 6-3 against Kavcic. And in more good news for Argentina Chela has taken the first set 6-2 against Stepanek with the Czech going long at set point.

1750: Radek Stepanek has just begun his first round match with Juan Ignacio Chela on Pierangeli. Meanwhile Carlos Berlocq took the first set against Blaz Kavczic and we’re with serve in the second. We have the order of play in for tomorrow. Here’s the pick of the matches:

1733: David Nalbandian has sailed through to a second round match with Andy Murray. 6-3, 6-4 the Argentine has beaten qualifier Albert Ramos.  6-1, 4-6, 7-5 was the scoreline for Stan Wawrinka who has narrowly avoided defeat against qualifier Robin Haase. That sets up a pretty exciting second round clash with Janko Tipsarevic in the second round.

1642: Fognini has triumphed 6-2, 6-2 over Baghdatis. A win which suggests the Italian has a lot more to offer as he easily beat Baghdatis, who looked woefully out for form. Robin Haase took the second set but Stan Wawrinka now has a break at 3-2 in the third. David Nalbandian is now a set and a break up against qualifier Albert Ramos.

1613: Fognini simply follows where he left off in the first set. He has broken the Baghdatis serve twice early in the second set for a 3-0 lead. It’s difficult to see anything other than a home win now.

1600: What a set for Fognini. He has taken it 6-2 with a second break against a distinctly out of sorts Marcos Baghdatis. Fognini made things look easy at times. David Nalbandian is already 3-1 up against Albert Ramos while Robin Haase is putting up more of a fight in the second set against Stan Wawrinka leading 3-2 with serve.

1533: Storming start for Fognini delights the home crowd. He breaks early and then has another break point for a second break. But some wild shots from the Italian gets an out of sorts Baghdatis a foothold in the match. 2-1 Fognini. Stan Wawrinka has raced to a 5-0 lead against Robin Haase.

1510: Three more men’s matches about to start. On Centrale a chance for the home crowd to cheer on their wild card Fabio Fognini against Marcos Baghdatis. Fognini has never beaten a non-Italian here while Baghdatis reached the Munich quarter-finals two weeks ago.  On Court 1, Stan ‘the man’ Wawrinka is about to take on Robin Haase. Stan has won all four meetings between the two, the latest coming at Estoril earlier this year. It’s also be Albert Ramos against David Nalbandian on Pietrangeli for the right to play Andy Murray. Qualifer Ramos reached the final in Casablanca earlier this year.

1501: Tomic is through. It looked like he made hard work of that one though. He beats Santiago Giraldo, the qualifier, eventually with a backhand drop shot to win the final set 6-4. He will need to perform better against Novak Djokovic in the next round though, much better. 

1444: It’s 3-3 in the final set between Tomic and Giraldo. Tomic wearing his cap on back to front. Meanwhile I’m hearing that Dolgopolov retired against Verdasco with illness having not eaten in two days.

1419: It’s now one set all as Tomic takes the second 6-2. Decider to come.

1356: First set to Giraldo 6-4 but Tomic has taken an early break in the second and leads 2-0.

1327: Just one men’s match on at the moment. The exciting young Australian Bernard Tomic is level at 3-3 with qualifier Santiago Giraldo of Colombia.

1250: Unfortunately Dolgopolov has had to retire. He took an injury time out with the wind so strong that even the umbrella was flying everywhere. Not the way Verdasco would have liked to have progressed but he is through to face an exciting all Spanish second rounder with David Ferrer. 

1242: Bagel for Dolgopolov on Centrale as Verdasco shows just why he is always a threat on clay court surfaces. The Spaniard has dealt far better with the blustery conditions and 6-0 appears to be a fair scoreline. Meanwhile Monfils is through to the second round with a second set 6-1 win over Alex Bogomolov Jr. Impressive performance from the Frenchman who will play Juan Carlos Ferrero in the second round.

1228: Great start for Vedasco who has broken Dolgopolov in his very first service game and als
o the second and now has the early 3-0 advantage with two breaks of serves. It is proving to be a breeze for Monfils so far which is quite appropriate given the windy conditions we have today. He is now a set up and 3-1 to the good in the second.

1213: First set to Monfils on Supertennis Arena. He’s taken it 6-4 against Bogomolov on Supertennis Arena. We  now have action on Centrale where Fernando Verdasco, quarter-finalist last week in Madrid, has just got under way against Alexandr Dolgopolov, who lost in the final at Brisbane to Andy Murray this year.
