Eugenie Bouchard, the talented Canadian who made the final of Wimbledon in 2014, has been paired with the experienced Jelena Jankovic in the first round of the Italian Open.
The pair will go head to head after the 2016 draw in Rome put them together and another highlight includes 1999 winner Venus Williams’ match against fellow American CoCo Vandeweghe.
Venus’ sister and top seed Serena will face Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany or Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the second round while Angelique Kerber will take on the winner of Bouchard and Jankovic.
Qualifying at Foro Italico begins on Saturday and British women are involved in two standout matches. Heather Watson takes on home favourite Nastassja Burnett while Laura Robson is in action against American Christina McHale.
