Italian teenagers Lorenzo Musetti and Giulio Zeppieri will play each other in the final round of qualifying at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia after recording victories over Leonardo Mayer and Hugo Dellien respectively on Sunday.

Musetti, the 18-year-old world No.258, triumphed 7-6(4) 6-3 against the Argentinian while his compatriot, who is the world No.357, needed two hours seven minutes to find a way past Dellien 7-6(7) 3-6 6-0. The two players will take to Court 1 at 10am with a place in the main draw at stake.

Another Italian in final qualifying round action on Monday will be Marco Cecchinato, the former world No.16 and 2018 Roland Garros semi-finalist, who defeated Bradley Klahn 6-1 6-4 in his second round qualifying match. His next opponent will be Slovakia’s Jozef Kovalik, who knocked No.3 seed Aljaz Bedene out 7-6(5) 6-3.

No.2 seed Gilles Simon was another top seed to exit the tournament in the second round of qualifying after he succumbed 7-5 2-6 6-3 to Dominik Koepfer while top seed Tennys Sandgren bounced back from a set down to overcome Alexei Poyrin 6-7(6) 6-4 6-2. Next up for the American is No.9 seed Joao Sousa, who saw off Ilya Ivashka 6-4 7-6(3); Taro Daniel’s conqueror Mikhail Kukushkin awaits Koepfer.

No.15 seed Corentin Moutet advanced for the second time in as many rounds due to a retirement. His second round opponent Roberto Marcora was forced to pull out of their match with a leg injury when trailing the Frenchman 2-1 in the third set while his first round opponent Roberto Carballes Baella had also been forced to retire. Moutet will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who dropped just one game as he eased past Yuichi Sugita in straight sets, in the third round of qualifying in the first match on Court 3.

The remaining matches will see No.11 seed Mikael Ymer take on Facundo Bagnis, Pedro Martinez face Andrej Martin, who upset No.7 seed Jeremy Chardy 6-2 6-2, and Damir Dzumhur play Federico Coria.

Matches get underway at the Foro Italico from 10am on Monday.
