Rafa Nadal could face Andy Murray in the quarter-finals as he hunts his eighth Rome Masters title.
The world No.1 and top seed is in the same side of the draw at the Italian Open as Wimbledon champion Murray (7).
Nadal and Murray both have byes for the Internazionali BNL d’Italia 2014 first round.
Spaniard Nadal will face either Gilles Simon or wild-card Italian entry Filippo Volandri in the second round.
Murray will meet either Marcel Granollers or Feliciano Lopez.
Byes were also awarded to Roger Federer (4) and Novak Djokovic (5) – who are in the bottom half of the draw – as well as Stanislas Wawrinka (3), David Ferrer (5), Tomas Berdych (6) and Milos Raonic (8).
Federer is set for a first-game showdown with either Robin Hasse or Jeremy Chardy, Djokovic will meet Radek Stepanek or Pablo Andujar.
Wawrinka is waiting to see who he will face as Paolo Lorenzi is meeting a qualifier in the first round.
Ferrer’s opposition will be one from Mikhail Kukushkin or Joao Sousa and Berdych has Roberto Bautista or Dmitry Tursunov.
And, like Wawrinka, the last seeded man in the top eight Raonic is up against either Simeone or a qualifier.
