Serena Williams will defend her Rome Masters title.
The world No.1 suffered a thigh injury in her quarter-final against Petra Kvitova in Madrid, but is recovering well ahead of playing at the Italian Open.
Williams, 32, tweeted: “Sad I could not play my match. But I’m recovering fast and getting ready for Rome and Roland Garros. I love u #RenasArmy kisses to all.”
As the reigning champion the American has a first-round bye, which will allow her to get fit in time to defend her crown on the clay.
She added: “It is important that I have enough time to rest and recover. It’s very frustrating.
“I am planning to play in Rome. Fortunately, I have a bye next week so will have an extra day of rest.”
