Serena Williams to face Orpandi or Petkovic as she begins Italian Open defence

Serena Williams will begin her Internazionali BNL d’Italia 2014 defence against the winner of Rominia Oprandi and Andrea Petkovic.
The top seed and world No.1 has a first-round bye at the Rome Masters and will be using that time to recover from a thigh injury.
The American is in the same side of the draw as Maria Sharapova (8) who will meet the winner of a match between a qualifier and Daniela Hantuchova.
Simona Halep (4) and Petra Kvitova (5) are also in the top half of the Italian Open.
The bottom half of the draw sees second see Na Li, Agnieszka Radwanska (3), Jelana Jankovic (6), and Angelique Kerber (7) battle it out amongst themselves in the route to the final.
Ana Ivanovic (11) meets wildcard Karin Knapp in the first round.
Caroline Wozniacki (14) faces another Italian in Francesca Schiavone with Sabine Lisicki playing Samantha Stosur.
