2217: Thanks for your company today, join us again late morning on Thursday for third round action here at Foro Italico. Goodnight and ciao!  2215: That will be that – the dreaded bagel for Goerges with Azarenka easing to a third round spot in just one hour and one minute. She will play Ayumi Morita tomorrow mid-afternoon. 2200: This is a procession so far. Azarenka breaks again to take a 3-0 lead and it appears to be a carbon copy of the first set so far. 2153: Azarenka breaks Goerges to love first up in the second set. The Belarusian is in total control. 2151: Azarenka has eased to the first set, 6-2 and Goerges will serve first at the start of the second set. 2131: Goerges is on the board, unfortunately for her Azarenka has four games on the board. 2124: Totally dominant from Vika so far who breaks Goerges to love for a second b.reak of serve. 3-0. 2121: Stunning start for Azarenka who breaks the Goerges serve before holding her own. 2-0. 2113: So then final match of the night, Julia Goerges, world number 25, against Victoria Azarenka, world number three. Azarenka has a 4-1 head-to-head lead, most recent meeting was in Linz last year which the Belarusian won. 2040: Final result on the outside courts is a win for Ayumi Morita of Japan in comfortably fashion over Urszula Radwanska, 6-3, 6-1. Morita will play Julia Goerges and Victoria Azarenka tomorrow in the third round. That’s the next match on Centrale which will start around 9pm. 1920: Suarez Navarro has won in straight sets to set up a meeting with compatriot Dominguez Lino. Just one more match until Julia Goerges v Victoria Azarenka at 9pm, Urszula Radwanska is at 2-2 with Ayumi Morita. 1800: Some more results are in. Lourdes Dominguez Lino has beaten Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 6-4. Carlo Suarez Navarro, who has taken the first set 6-4, or Romina Oprandi await. Sloane Stephens has triumphed in three against Kirk Bertens to set up a meeting with Sharapova. 1727: A straightforward 6-2, 6-2 win for Sharapova to kick off her title defence and Muguruza did not have much chance up against the Russian’s power. She will play the winner of Bertens and Stephens which has gone into a final set. 1650: Sharapova is certainly not in the mood to be messing about her. It is 2-0 in the second set thanks to an early break. 1642: After a slow start, Sharapova quickly snatches a second break and then serves the first set out for 6-2. She is quickly into her groove. First set for the Dutch Kiki Bertens 6-4 against American Sloane Stephens. 1630: It’s Maria time. Sharapova has waited all week to play and now takes on Garbine Muguruza, the qualifier from Spain. In the first meeting between the two, Sharapova breaks in the fifth game for a 3-2 lead. Lourdes Dominguez Lino has taken the first set against Yanina Wickmayer 6-4. 1544: Errani has finally beaten McHale 6-2 in the final set on her ninth match point. She will place Kirilenko next up. 1521: Sam Stosur has triumphed 7-6, 6-0 over Peng Shuai and will play Petra Kvitova next. An extraordinary match on Pietrangeli as Sara Errani gets second win and has broken twice in the final set for a 3-0 lead over McHale. 1502: Errani has now lost five straight games to somehow lose the second set 7-5 to McHale. A decider but you feel as if the momentum has swung. Maria Kirilenko is into the third round with victory over Varvara Lepchenko 6-3, 6-1. Kirilenko will play the winner of Erani v McHale. 1445: Despair on Pietrangeli as Errani has lost two breaks of serve and it is now 5-5 in the second against McHale. Stosur has won a first set tiebreak against Peng. A few umbrellas going up, a bit of light rain in the air. 1409: Janjovic has bageled Jovanovski to claim an entirely convincing 6-2, 6-0 win. Li Na in the third round for the former champion and it is great to see JJ showing what she is capable of. Errani has a break in the second set against McHale. Sam Stosurr took an early break against Peng Shuai on Court 2 but it is now back to 3-3. 1351: Delight for the Pietrangeli crowd who have seen their girl Errani come back to claim the first set 7-5 against McHale. Jankovic is a break up in the second set against a tired Jovanovski. 1327: Cibulkova has beaten Oudin to move into the third round where she will face Serena Williams. A test if ever there as one. Good news for JJ fans, she has won the first set against Jovanovski who must be exhausted after her efforts against Caroline Wozniacki. Errani has broken back for 4-4 against McHale. 1306: From one Italian seed to another on Pietrangeli but it has been far from the ideal start for Sara Errani in her first match. The Italian number seven seed has a poor record here at her home tournament, never getting beyond the third round, and is already 3-1 down in the first set. Cibulkova looks on the verge of victory 4-1 up in the final set against Oudin. Li Na has won the battle of the Chinese on Supertennis with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win. Li will next play the winner of Jelena Jankovic and Bojana Jovanovski, which has just started on Court 1, JJ getting the early break at 2-1. 1238: Burnett offers greater resistance in the second set but it is Vinci who gives us our first result of the day, 6.1, 6-4 she has emerged and will play Simona Halep in the third round. 1235: Excellent comeback from Melanie Oudin to win five games in a row and take the first set 7-5. But that seems to have taken it out of her. Cibulkova races to a 5-1 lead in the second set. Elsewhere Li Na took the first set 6-3 against Jie Zheng and is now 4-1 to the good in the second. 1153: Vinci has the first set, 6-1, and her class is telling thus far. 1133: We have three women’s matches that started at 11am. One all Italian tie, one all Chinese and one American/Slovakian. Roberta Vinci is currently giving the wild card Nastassja Burnett the run around. It is 4-0 on Pietrangeli. On Supertennis Li Na has eased to a 3-1 lead over Zheng Jie. It is also going as expected on Court 2 with Dominka Cibulkova 3-2 up with the break against Melanie Oudin. 1112: Good morning and welcome to Wednesday’s WTA play at the Foro Italico. Highlight of the day is the beginning of Maria Sharapova’s title defene when she takes on qualifier Garbine Muguruza around about 4pm local time. That’s if the weather holds, there is currently cloud in the sky and forecasters are indicating there may be rain later this afternoon.
