19:25 – IBI20 Liveblog ends here. Thanks everyone for joining us, see you next year! CIAO!!!!
19:20 – Djokovic speaks with an excellent Italian! He thank the crowd for coming even in this strange year. He congratulates Diego for his stunning match vs. Nadal and making it to the final. It’s raining now again! The ceremony goes on. Nole thanks everyone and kisses a well-deserved IBI20 cup.
19:04 – 40-0 — > 3 MATCH POINT DJOKOVIC !!! Novak misses in the first two, a long rally in the third … He is thrown back by a nice lob, but Schwartzman’s final touch on the net is OUT. Game Set Match DJOKOVIC! 7-5 6-3 for the ATP n.1, who wins his fifth title at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. BRAVO!!! Applause to Diego for the wonderful tournament and fighting in the final.
19:00 -WHAT A LOB by Novak! Diego rushes to the net, but Djokovic’s lob-passer with forehand is perfect … 0-30 and 0-40! Two break points that are almost match point. FANTASTIC BACKHAND down the line, IT’S A BREAK! 5-3 Novak, he serve for the match.
18:46 – Fifth game, 2 all. Dieguito tries the assault to Djokovic “fort” accelerating his shots to the maximum, on Novak’s cruising speed in the rally now has no chance to break him. Great effort, Diego rises 15-40 on return, two break points! Glacial Djokovic in cancel them. 3-2 up Novak.
18:33 – Second set. Break and counter break in the first two games. Schwartzman tries to increase the pace and angles of his shots to break Novak’s rhythm.
18:22 – RED ALARM !!! A couple of classic unforced cost Schwartzman a “deadly” 0-40 and three SET POINTS for Nole …. OK the third: Djokovic plays SOOOO well: suddenly raises the spin of his forehand, Schwartzman is forced to literally jump on the ball and his cross forehand flies away. SET Djokovic! 7-5. The Argentine closes the set with only 29% of points with the 2nd serve. Poor number.
18:15 – Djokovic insists with drop shots, finding few winners and mistakes. tThe Serbian wins a tough eleventh game on serve, moves 6-5 up. Schwartzman to serve. Tiebreak next?
18:10 – 5 all the first, the match is now in great balance but the feeling is that Djokovic is ready to take the lead …
17:50 – 4 games in a row, Djokovic takes the lead. The Serbian has increased the intensity of his tennis and move forward his position on court. Anticipation is the key of his game, and now it’s working.
17:42 – Great backhand down the line by Novak’s line! Diego gets late, it is the ball of 3 all. OK! It’s 3 all! Djokovic after a lethargic start, raises the pace and rhythm of his tennis and moves forward 4-3.
17:38 – Finally the “Djoker” begins to grind a more offensive tennis. He smashes a couple of terrific groundstrokes in full anticipation that stun Schwartzman. Diego is still a break ahead, but now the # 1 have entered the game.
17:35 – An horrible Double Foul costs “El Peque” the Counter Break! Novak moves the score in the match, goes to serve 1-3. Not a great match so far.
17:28 – 30-40 Break point Schwartzman! The # 1 forces out a backhand, it’s a great chance for a double break for Diego. Another backhand by Djokovic dies into the net, DOUBLE BREAK and 3-0 ahead Schwartzman. What a poor start for Novak, hesitant and not intense in the rallies.
17:17 – BREAK SCHWARTZMAN! Djokovic starts not at a great pace. He goes 40-30, but a couple of daring points send Diego to break point. A long rally on backhand diagonal is won by the Argentine. Diego to serve 1-0 ahead.
17:11 – Novak serves the first point of the final. Accurate cross ball, Diego returns on the net.

15:07 – PLISKOVA RETIREMENT !!!!!! 6-0 2-1 Halep, in 31 minutes. What a pity! Karolina sits crying, she literally couldn’t play the final. We await her words to understand what the injury was. The women’s final was basically not played.
14:59 – At the change court at the end of the first set, Pliskova gets her lower back massaged. Also has a noticeable thigh bandage. She arrived to the final in poor physical shape, what a bad luck!
14:57 – Somebody told Pliskova her match started at 14.30… Halep wins the first set 6-0 with three breaks, losing only 9 points in the whole set! Incredible! Brava Halep to put Pliskova in trouble with her cross forehand, a shot that highlights the difficulty of the Czech in hitting low tight balls, loaded with top spin. Some physical problem seems evident for Karolina.
14:42 – First game of the women’s final, and…. BREAK HALEP! Pliskova loses the service at the opening, hell of a start Simona! The aggressive and top spin loaded balls from the Romanian immediately put the Czech’s power-tennis in in crisis. In just 6 minutes, 2-0 Halep!
14:20 – GOOD MORNING! Rome is ready for the last day of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia 2020. In a few minutes the women’s final will start: Simona Halep, n.2 in the world ranking, against Karolina Pliskova, reigning Champion of the tournament. It is a very intriguing match, due to the total contrast of playing style. Not before 5 pm, on display the men’s final. This year the world n.1 Novak Djokovic and the Argentine Diego Schwartzman will play for the title. Last year this match was a stunning semifinal, one of the best matches of the entire tournament.
The crowd is entering in the stadium, hoping that the weather does not turn bad (the forecasts announce possible showers in the early afternoon, the sky is grey now…).
Two great matches are about to begin, follow them with us. LET’S TENNIS!!!
