Chan Yung-Jan and Martina Hingis came through two tight sets to defeat Olympic champions Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina and lift the women’s doubles trophy in Rome. It marked a second title in as many weeks for the No. 2 seeds, who also won in Madrid last weekend.
The pair, who started playing together at the Australian Open this year, needed just under two hours to get the better of the top seeds 75 76(4). It was an eighth straight victory for Chan and Hingis and their third title overall having also won Indian Wells.
