Djokovic sees off Federer to defend title

Novak Djokovic is once again champion of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia after he saw off the challenge of Roger Federer 64 63.

The world number one broke as Federer served to stay in the first set and never looked back after that point to ensure his fourth title at the Foro Italico.

It was a successful defence for Djokovic who had a slow start to this year’s tournament and it adds to previous titles in 2008 and 2011.

But for Federer it was more disappointment with his fourth unsuccessful final in Rome after a one hour and 15 minute contest.

There was no doubt this was the right outcome with Djokovic once again showing his class on the surface and he promises to be a leading contender at Roland Garros, especially if Rafael Nadal fails to rediscover his form on clay shown in previous years.

It was Djokovic’s 22nd consecutive win, fifth title of 2015 and 53rd of his career and in the end it was his lower number of unforced errors that proved decisive with just 10 throughout the match.
