Camila Giorgi and Sara Errani gave the home crowd something to cheer about at Foro Italico on day four.
The Italian’s both progressed to the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
Giorgi, the 22-year-old golden girl of Italian tennis, beat Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-4 7-6 on a packed-out Pietrangeli court.
Although Giorgi has never broken into the top 50 world rankings she is a big prospect for home supporters at the Rome Masters and has already knocked out the ninth seed.
Errani, the no.10 seed, saw off the challenge of Chanelle Scheepers on Centre court with a 7-5 6-3 victory.
Italy’s No.1 will be looking to at least match her semi-final place of last year.
