Hugo Nys and Jan Zielinski are the new Internazionali BNL d’Italia ATP Masters 1000 doubles’ champions. In a little more than one hour, they defeated Botic Van de Zandschulp and Robin Haase 7-5 6-1. Thanks to an almost flawless performance -they gave no break points to their opponents- they managed to close just in time before a major thunderstorm hit Rome.

Thanks to today’s success, the pair took over the lead of the The Pepperstone ATP Doubles Race to Turin, though this is only their second title together, after the one taken at the ATP 250 of Metz last year.

The first set was a battle that got only decided in the final game: the Australian Open finalists put together a stunning return game: getting up to 0-40, the managed to close on the second set point.

Strong of the lead, Nys/Zielinski dominated the second set. After failing a break chance in the second game, they won the five games that followed, sealing the match with an ace by Nys.

Just in time, as a huge thunderstorm hit the Foro Italico in the middle of the ceremony, but the duo had plenty reasons to smile and joke about the unlucky weather.
